The supply list is being sent home today, for any who have not yet received it. It is also available under the 'Resources' section of this blog. A syllabus with a general outline of what we'll be doing this year will be distributed at the Back to School night on September 4th (6:00 - 8:00). If you are unable to attend it will be distributed the next day. It will also be posted on here for the course of the year.
If you have any questions feel free to get in touch with me. stjohn.mccormick@gmail is the best way to get a hold of me; on the letter sent home today it notes cmccormick@saintjohndelasalle.org however, we're having some issues setting that address up at the moment.
Your homework for tonight is:
1) Come up with a name for our blog. Write at least one full page describing why you chose the name and convincing your audience to choose your name. This should be done on loose leaf paper. Tomorrow you will give a one minute presentation in order to convince us. After everyone gives their presentations we will have a vote to name the blog.
2) Think about Kohlberg's stages of moral development and the Heinz Dilemma introduced today:
Level VI: I have a personal code of behavior and I follow it
Level V: I am considerate of others
Level IV: I follow the rules
Level III: I want to make someone happy
Level II: I want a reward
Level I: I don't want to be in trouble
Choose two different levels and think of examples for each one. These examples can be from personal experience (something you or a friend/family member did), from movies, or from books. Come ready to discuss them tomorrow. Everyone will discuss their two examples either as a whole group or to a partner so be prepared to talk about them!
Two examples:
Level II: I want a reward
When I was younger I really wanted a Playstation. I did chores around the house for four months in order to earn enough money to buy the playstation. The reason I did those chores was because I wanted a reward.
Level V: I am considerate of others
When I noticed one of my classmates was really struggling to figure out how to add fractions. I took the time to help her because I knew it was the right thing to do.
