Progress Reports are going home Thursday.  Being our first progress reports of the year, please keep in mind the number of assignments/activities is going to be significantly lower than in upcoming progress reports due to the first fortnight of school being reserved for policies/procedures, last week's spirit week activities, and the fact that we've only had one full week of school this year.  It is strange to think that we're already into our fifth week of the year, before we know it June will be here!

Thursday we will have a quiz in math on comparing and rounding decimals.  Tomorrow's homework will give you an idea of what the quiz will look like.

Your homework for tonight is:

Due to the heat, we will be dismissing at 1:00 p.m. today.   Please stay cool & hydrated!

A few reminders about our uniform policy:
- Shirts must be tucked in at all times
- School shoes: navy blue or black; no stripes or colored emblems/logos/shoe laces.  No open back shoes (clogs, Crocs, etc.)
- Navy blue, black belt or brown
- Girls: Remember, only clear nail poish
- Boys: Starting in 5th grade you need to wear a solid navy blue tie.  Even if it is under a navy blue sweater.

Yesterday we had our first cloze.  A cloze is an assessment which gauges an individual's reading comprehension.  A passage of text is supplied with certain words systematically removed.  Students are asked to fill in the blank using their own knowledge of grammar, vocabulary, and understanding of context. We will begin each week with a cloze and a brief discussion on the possible responses. This is not something that should be (or can be) studied for, the best way to prepare for it is to read a lot!

2) Spelling: In your word study notebook, write either 8 sentences using 8 words, or 4 sentences using 8 words
